4 girl expelled from school for smoking in uniform in Tongi

Four schoolgirls have been expelled for smoking in the streets wearing school uniforms in Tongi, Gazipur.

The incident took place when the eighth-graders of Safiuddin Sarkar Academy and College went to a coaching centre for private classes during the month of Ramadan.

At that time, the other students next to them recorded a video of the girls smoking which was later shared on social media platform Facebook.

The incident came to the notice of the school authorities, who summoned the parents of the students and ordered their expulsion on Thursday.

Confirming the matter, Moniruzzaman, principal of the institution, said that no action could be taken previously as the school was closed during Ramadan.

Meanwhile, other students gathered at the school on Saturday after hearing about the incident. However, nobody protested against the decision.

Gazipur District Education Officer Rebecca Sultana said: “I have been informed about the matter. I will talk about this with the head of the school on Monday.”

Tongi West Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shah Alam said that If anyone makes a written complaint, the matter will be looked into.
