Three of a family, including a child, suffered burn injuries after a suspected gas leak caused a fire in Dhaka’s Jatrabari.
The incident was reported early morning on Thursday from a ground floor flat of a four-storey building at Konapara neighbhourhood in the area.
Victims, Abdul Karim, his wife Khadija Begum and their 1-year-old daughter Fatema, are being treated for severe burn injuries at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The fire broke out as soon as Khadija switched on the stove, according to Kamal Hossain, a cousin of Karim.
Karim suffered 55% burns while his wife 95%, said Inspector Bacchu Mia of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s police outpost. The child has suffered 35% burns.
