Suspected robber killed in Manikganj ‘gunfight’ with RAB

A suspected robber has died in what the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has described as a gunfight in Manikganj in the early hours of Thursday.

Victim Kawsar Hossain, 45, was named in nine cases filed with several police stations in the district, said Assistant Superintendent Anam Imran Khan, of the RAB's legal and media wing.

Two RAB members sustained bullet injuries in the shootout, which took place at a village in Singair upazila, according to him.

A raid was conducted at Charigram union on a tip-off of a robbery in progress, the RAB said.

The gunfight erupted when the robbers opened fire, said the elite police unit before adding that Kawsar, who led a robbers’ gang, was shot dead on the spot.

His accomplices, however, managed to flee, according to RAB officials.

Two pistols along with local weapons were found on the site of the shooting, said officials.
