Nine workers suffered burn injuries in a fire that broke out at a chemical factory in Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj on Tuesday.
The incident was reported around 10pm from Lily Chemical Factory, owned by AKM Selim, in Dakkhin Golakandail area of Bhulta.
The injured are-- Bayezid, 30, Rokon, 25, Khademul, 20, Sojib, 30, Ripon, 25, Mehedi, 21, Rasel, 22 and Akalu, 35 and Muzahid, 23.
They are currently undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.
Among the victims, Akalu suffered 90% burns, Bayezid 85%, Muzahud 75%, and Sojib 50%.
Bacchu Mia, inspector and in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost confirmed the matter.
“Three of them are in critical condition,” he added.
Three firefighting units from Araihazar and Adamjee stations managed to douse the blaze around 12:15am, said Sonargaon Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Tanhar Ul Islam.
“We suspect the fire was caused by a short circuit during heavy rain,” he added.
An assistant of the factory, Abdul Baten, said the fire had spread rapidly due to the chemicals present at the factory.
