The body of a man was found hanging in bathroom of a residential hotel in Patuakhali on Saturday, said police.
The deceased was identified as Shamim Akand, 30, hailing from Itbaria Union Parishad.
Nurul Islam Majumder, officer-in-charge (OC) of Patuakhali sadar police station, confirmed the matter.
The manager of the hotel and the girlfriend of the deceased were detained for questioning, he said.
“On Friday, Shamim and his girlfriend booked a room at M Ali Hote, introducing themselves as a married couple” said the OC.
The girlfriend claimed that Shamim had consumed sedative medicine and committed suicide.
The father of the deceased, however, alleged that his son was murdered.
The body was sent at morgue for autopsy.
