3 minor siblings killed in Mymensingh gas cylinder blast

Three siblings were killed when a gas cylinder exploded at a house in Mymensingh’s Bhaluka Upazila on Sunday night.

The accident took place in Seedstore market area of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Khadija, 5, Raihan, 3, and Radia, 2. All three of them are the children of garment worker Sumon.

Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bhaluka police station, said the garment worker parents left the children at home in the evening and locked them from outside. 

“Suddenly an explosion occurred at the house around 9:30pm. Upon receiving the information, Fire Service members rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control in two hours,” he added.

The bodies of the victims were later recovered from the house.

Police suspect that the gas cylinder in the kitchen stove caused the explosion.

Meanwhile, at least ten people, including women and children, were burnt when a gas cylinder of a vehicle exploded at Fatullah in Narayanganj on Sunday.

The cylinder exploded from a cigarette fire as some workers were repairing the vehicle behind a tin-shed house in Beparipara area of Aliganj.
