A man has committed suicide by taking poison after failing to get the custody of his child in Tangail’s Ghatail upazila, claims family.
The deceased, Al-Amin, 40, left a suicide note addressed to his younger brother Mahmud, explaining his frustration over not getting custody of his child, following the divorce with his wife.
On Friday, one of Al-Amin’s family members found him unconscious at home and rushed him to Tangail 250-Bed Hospital.
When his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at the late hours the same day.
The deceased’s brother Mahmud said Al-Amin’s suicide note clearly mentions the reason behind his death.
Another family member said: “Al-Amin broke down completely after his ex-wife Shila took custody of their two-year-old son.”
In this regard, Al-Amin's father-in-law said that his daughter had left Al-Amin due to torture by him and his family members. She could not stand the oppression any longer.
Ghatail police station Officer-in-Charge Azharul Islam Sarkar said: "We are initially suspecting it to be a suicide but the autopsy report will reveal the truth. No cases have been filed regarding the incident.”
