Couple jumps off bridge to save life from approaching train

A couple jumped off a railway bridge to save themselves from being crushed under a train approaching the bridge.

The incident took place in Kalukhali Upazila of Rajbari on Sunday. Locals rescued the couple, who went to the place on the occasion of Pahela Falgun, and rushed them to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital in Faridpur. 

Inspector (investigation) at Pangsha police station Uttam Kumar Ghosh confirmed the matter on Monday. The duo sustained injuries and were being treated at the hospital.

The man, Shamim Khan, 22, son of Shahjahan Khan of Golabari Bon village, had one of his arms fractured. The woman also sustained injuries with a broken bone on her waist.

Locals said that the couple were sitting on the rail tracks when a Kushtia-bound train approached the bridge. The duo saw the train coming and became frightened, and thus jumped off the bridge. 

2 youths killed by train in Jamalpur

Meanwhile, two youths were killed in separate train incidents in Sarishabari Upazila of Jamalpur early on Monday.

They were identified as Sajib Ahmed, 25, and Julhas Uddin, 20. 

Police said that Sajib was roaming around in the Chechiabandha rail crossing area during midnight when a train ran him over, leaving him dead on the spot. 

Julhas, on the other hand, was walking on the rail tracks in the middle of the night on the Bhatara-Kendua route when a train crushed him. He died on the spot.
