Following the recent gunfight in the hill tracts that left an army soldier dead, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan says that he smells conspiracies to destabilize the region.
“There have been incidents of the army coming under attack. We believe there are many conspiracies at work there,” he said on Saturday.
The minister’s remarks came while speaking to the media after visiting a Saraswati Puja pavilion at a school in Dhaka.
Four people, including an army officer, were killed in a shootout with in Bandarban’s Ruma on Wednesday.
The Parbatya Chattogram Jana Sanghati Samiti (PCJSS) faction led by Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma, also known as Shantu Larma, has been blamed for the attack, which has denied its involvement.
The army said that the three other people killed in the gunfight were PCJSS activists.
Home Minister Khan said that they will soon send police teams to the Khagrachhari, Rangamati and Bandarban districts where the army has set up camps.
Responding to a query, he claimed that security forces are not involved in forced disappearances.
“Some people go into hiding and later return,” he said.
