Fire gutted a shoe factory in Melandaha Upazila of Jamalpur on Sunday.
The fire originated from an electrical short-circuit at ‘Araf Footwear Factory' in Kulia Union Parishad of the upazila at around 3am, said Melandha Fire Service and Civil Defence unit leader Nasir Uddin Khandakar.
Two units of firefighters from Melandaha and Islampur upazilas rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after three hours, he said.
Damages in the fire were estimated at about Tk20,00,000, said the fire official.
Three workers were inside the factory at the time, but they were able to get out safely, said the owner of the factory, Md Anisuzzaman Dipu.
