A truck driver was stabbed to death allegedly by muggers in the Demra area of the capital on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Saiful Islam, 35, son of Fazlul Haque of Mendipur Uttarpara in Demra.
Quoting family members, police said Saiful used to drive his own truck.
Saiful was found wounded at around 4pm in the Demra area by the police and they rushed him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). He succumbed to his injuries around 5am, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost.
“The body has been kept in the DMCH morgue for autopsy. He had stab wounds in his lower abdomen area,” said Saiful’s uncle Mostaq Ahmed while talking to police.
“He had no enmity with others. Muggers stabbed him in his abdomen at night and snatched away Tk10,000-15,000 from his possession,” he added.
The police are working to arrest the perpetrators.
