5 traders fined for selling green chillies at high prices

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) on Monday fined five traders for selling green chillies at inflated prices in raids conducted in various markets across Manikganj.

Asaduzzaman Rumel, assistant Director of DNCRP, reported that during a raid on Monday morning at 7:30am in Jagir Kacha Bazar Arot, Molla Bazar, Pouro Kacha Bazar, and Manikganj Dudh Bazar in the upazila, it was found that that the wholesale price was Tk160, while retailers were selling them for prices ranging from Tk350 to Tk400.

In total, five traders were fined a sum of Tk7,000 for the offense of selling at excessive prices.

According to sources, Rubel Store and Lesu Banijaloy in Jagir Arot were each fined Tk2,000, while Rasel Store and Manna Store in Molla Bazar were each fined Tk500.

 Additionally, another trader named Rubel from Dudh Bazar was also fined Tk2,000.

Assistant Director Asaduzzaman Rumel stated that, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Manikganj Muhammad Abdul Latif, these five traders were penalized in accordance with the Consumer Rights Protection Act for the offenses of selling green chillies at inflated prices, failing to maintain purchase receipts, and not displaying the price list of their products. 

 He also said that the raids will be continued further.
