Kaptai-Assam Bosti Road becomes new tourist attraction

Walking on the Assam Bosti-Kaptai Road in the hilly district of Rangamati will be a bit of a strain on the neck for a nature lover. On one side of this road is the blue water of the Kaptai Lake, and on the other the strange green of the hills. Private tourist centres like Baragang, Rainya Tugun, Beranne Lake and Baghi Lake Valley have been developed on both sides of the road.

Next to the road is the birthplace of Buddha Guru Mahasadhaka Sadhanananda Mahasthvira (Bon-vante). The memorial temple established in his name is visited by hundreds of visitors every day.

The permanent campus of Rangamati University of Science and Technology will come into view on this road.

Through this road, one can go from Rangamati Sadar to Kaptai Upazila in a short time.

Sources at the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) said that the road was severely damaged by a landslide on June 13, 2017. Later, the LGED took the initiative to renovate it. The road was upgraded to two lanes at a cost of about Tk50 crore. Three new bridges were also built.

Sadar Upazila LGED officials said that the road will be completed within this month.

Local residents also said their everyday hassles have decreased significantly because of the renovation of the road.

Sadar Upazila LGED Engineer Pranab Roy Chowdhury said: "A total of 18km of theKaptai-Assam Bosti Road has been upgraded to two lanes. It is a trademark achievement for the Rangamati LGED. The road has become very attractive to tourists.”

“Love Point”, built in the Baradam area for the beautification of this road, is the centre of attraction, he added.

Rangamati LGED Executive Engineer Ahmad Shafi said: “This is an alternative road. It has reduced the distance from Rangamati to Kaptai by about 20km.”

He said: “This road is very important for the economic development of the district. It can become a tourism centre. Earlier, only small vehicles could ply through it. The road was dangerous, and it took too much time to travel.”
