Furious locals set fire to two buses after a motorcyclist got stuck between the two large vehicles and crushed to death on Tongi-Ashulia-Zerabo-EPZ Road in Ashulia, Savar, on Sunday morning.
The authorities identified the deceased as Mehedi Hasan, 32.
Zerabo Fire Service Station Officer Kabir Hossain, quoting locals, said Mehedi died on the spot after he was caught between two buses under the banner of Ali Noor when they were engaged in a “race” to overtake one another on their way to Abdullahpur.
“Later local residents set buses afire. We rushed to the spot upon receiving the information and brought the blaze under control.”
The police had recovered the dead body of the motorcycle rider and taken it away, the fire service official added.
Ashulia police station SI Masud Al Mamun said work was on to remove the two buses from the road.
