Ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia route resume after 9hrs

The movement of ferries has restarted on the Paturia-Daulatdia route after remaining suspended for nine hours due to low visibility caused by thick fog.

Two vessels with vehicles and passengers on board were stuck in the middle of the Padma River as ferry services were suspended from 9:15pm on Saturday till 6:30am on Sunday.

The deputy manager of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation's (BIWTC) Aricha office, Shah Md Khaled Newaz, confirmed the matter.

The fog was so dense that even nearby objects could not be seen, which led to ferry masters requesting the BIWTC to suspend traffic on the waterway in order to prevent mishaps, according to sources familiar with the matter.

A number of vehicles were waiting on either side of the route to be ferried across the river, Shah Md Khaled Newaz said.
