Rangpur city voters expressed strong dissatisfaction and anger yesterday as the mock voting process using EVMs, organized ahead of the city corporation election on December 27, was marred by technical glitches.
Most voters who visited the polling centres complained that the machines did not work correctly.
Several voters waited to vote in the EVM machines at the Lions School and College centre. But after giving their names, addresses and fingerprints, they could not cast their votes since their photographs and details did not appear in the machines.
They said that the election official of the centre could not activate the EVM machine in two hours. The same problem was reported from the Rangpur Begum Rokeya College polling station.
Jatiya Party mayoral candidate Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa complained that instead of holding mock voting in 229 polling stations of the city corporation, the EC demonstrated EVM machines in only 33 wards.
