Chhatra League activist hacked to death in Narayanganj

A local activist of the Bangladesh Chhatra League was hacked to death by a group of miscreants in Golakandail village of Rupganj upazila on Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as Rakib Hasan, 25.

Following the incident, Chhatra League activists set the house of the attackers on fire in protest. They demanded prompt arrest of the killers.

Bhulta police outpost Inspector Mahbub Hossain said: "A group of miscreants armed with sharp weapons attacked Rakib in Kathpatri area of Golakandail Hat around 9pm. They cut off Rakib's left hand with sharp weapons and hacked him in different parts of the body and fled.” 

Later, the family and local people rescued Rakib and rushed him to the local clinic and later to the Upazila health complex. The duty doctor at the health complex pronounced him dead.

According to local sources, there was a conflict between Chhatra League activist Rakib Hasan and Golakandail Union Sramik League leader Delwar Hossain over extortion, drug trade in the area. 

As a result of that dispute, Delwar Hossain along with 8 to 10 members of his force came on motorcycles and allegedly committed the murder.

Rupganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AFM Syed said that the police have started conducting drives to arrest those involved in the murder.
