The police have started a case against 24 leaders and activists of Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal, the youth and student wings of the BNP, over Friday’s three-way clash between the ruling Awami League, BNP and policemen, which left at least 20 people injured.
Feni model police station SI Siraj Mia filed the case late on Friday.
Nizam Uddin, officer-in-charge of the police station, said Feni Jubo Dal acting president Belal Hossain and Feni Chhatra Dal President Salah Uddin Mamun were among the 24 accused.
According to witnesses, the local BNP unit brought out a rally in protest of the recent hike in fuel oil prices and the energy crisis at around 3:30pm on Friday.
At one point, Chhatra League and Jubo League leaders attacked them, injuring at least 20 people, reports UNB.
Later, police fired 20 rounds of blank shots and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.
The two parties blamed each other for the incident.
Feni Chhatra League President Tofail Ahmad Tapu claimed that BNP leaders had attacked his party members first.
Meanwhile, Alal Uddin Alal, member secretary of the BNP’s Feni unit, accused the Awami League of instigating the clash and demanded the perpetrators be punished.
