A man was hacked to death in broad daylight at the court premises in Sunamganj on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Khokon Mia, 50, who was at court regarding a land dispute case.
Sunamganj Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Police immediately arrested three people — Fayez Ahmed, Md Sajid Mia, and Md Sebul Mia from the premises over the attack, he said.
Witnesses said at first the attackers surrounded Khokon, and one of them started punching him, while the other started stabbing him with a knife. A third attacker was using a key to stab him.
A law clerk Miftaul Alam said the attack appeared to be carried out in an attempt to kill the victim.
Another witness, Habibur Rahman, said it looked like the attack was pre-planned.
Khokon was rushed to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Dr Rabindra Talukder told Dhaka Tribune that Khokon Mia died before he was brought to the hospital. “The victim's body sustained a number of wounds from sharp weapons.”
Khokon Mia’s paternal cousin said he went with him to the court. “I was sitting at a shop outside the court premises when Foyez, Ismail, Shahan, Sebul, and Sajid attacked my brother.”
The lawyer of the deceased, advocate Abdul Bahar, said that he will file a murder case in this regard.
