A Narail court on Monday placed five people on a three-day remand, who were arrested on Sunday in the incident of arson, vandalism and attack on the houses and temple of the Hindu community of Lohagara, Narail.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Morshedul Alam passed the order after investigation officer in the case Mizanur Rahman produced the accused before the court and appealed for seven days in remand, reports UNB.
The remanded are Masum Billah, 32, Md Sayed Sheikh, 25, Rezaul Sheikh, 40, Rasel Mridha, 38, and Kabir Gazi, 40.
Narail Superintendent of Police (SP) Probir Kumar Roy earlier said that two cases have been filed in this incident so far.
SI Makruf Rahman of Lohagara police station filed one of the cases as the plaintiff on Monday.
On Saturday night, the prime accused, Akash Saha, 20, whose Facebook post started communal violence in Narail’s Lohagara upazila was detained from Khulna’s Dumuria by the Lohagara police station.
On Friday, a mob vandalized a temple, grocery stores and several homes of the Hindu community in the Dighalia Bazar area of Lohagara upazila of Narail.
Angry villagers became violent in the afternoon, alleging that a Hindu boy named Akash Saha had made a post on Facebook hurting their religious sentiments.
The mob attacked and vandalized several homes, including that of the boy’s family. They also broke into Sahapara temple and broke the furniture inside and vandalized several shops.
