Barisal hotel fined Tk50,000 after fly found in coffee

Hotel Grand Park in Barisal has been fined Tk50,000 as a dead fly was found in coffee served to the director general of the Directorate of National Consumers Right Protection (DNCRP).

Mohammad Shah Shoaib Miah, assistant director of the Barisal DNCRP office, on Thursday said DG AHM Shafiquzzaman, on a recent visit to Barisal, rented a room at Hotel Grand Park, an upscale hotel in the city.

During his stay he found a dead fly in a cup of coffee served to him.

He then left the hotel with the evidence and lodged a complaint via email to the Barisal DNCRP office on July 2.

A hearing was held on Wednesday afternoon regarding the allegation, said Shoaib Miah.

The hotel management admitted that there was indeed a fly in the cup of coffee.

Afterwards, Mohammad Selim, deputy director of the Barisal divisional office of the DNCRP, imposed a fine of Tk50,000 on the hotel.
