Two motorcyclists who were critically injured in an accident on the Padma Bridge died on Sunday.
Duty doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) declared them dead after they were brought in around 10:30pm.
DMCH police outpost in-charge Bacchu Mia confirmed the matter to the media.
Earlier, around 8pm the two men were critically injured when their motorcycles collided with each other on the Mawa section of the Padma Bridge, Shariatpur Additional Superintendent of Police Suman Deb said.
Witnesses said the two bikes crashed into each other due to excessive speed.
In a video that went viral on social media showed that two people, critically injured were lying on the side of the bridge.
This is the first accident reported since the Padma Bridge was opened to traffic in the morning.
The incident has prompted the authorities to impose a ban on motorcycles on the bridge.
In a notification issued on Sunday, the information and broadcasting ministry said that the decision will come into effect from 6am on Monday and continue till further notice.
