Truck carrying food aid to Sylhet overturns

A truck carrying food aid has overturned on its way to Sylhet.

The accident took place in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj on Sunday morning.

According to locals, the truck full of dry food items was going from Dhaka to Sylhet to help the flood-hit people of the latter district. When the truck reached the Barachar area on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway at around 9am, its driver lost control of it, resulting in the mishap.

Upon receiving the news, they rescued the driver and recovered the food. After that, they flipped the overturned truck rightside up and sent it on its way to the flooded district.

No casualties were reported.

Sherpur highway police station OC Parimal Chandra Dev said the police were looking into the incident.

Sylhet is currently witnessing one of the worst floods in the country’s history.

Incessant rainfall has continued to pile pressure on Sylhet residents, pushing them towards a food and drinking water crisis.

Many political and civic organizations as well as individuals have come forward to help them in their time of need with aids.
