A 25-year-old died after being run over by a truck in Shajahanpur upazila of Bogra late on Friday.
The deceased is Nawaj Al Saiman Ibn Majid Bappi, a fourth-year student of computer science at American International University-Bangladesh in Dhaka.
His friends SM Sakib and Piyal Hossain, both students of the same university, sustained injuries in the incident.
Bappi was heading towards Fultola from Banani on his bike with Sakib and Piyal riding pillion when the accident occurred, according to Shajahanpur police station OC Abdullah Al Mamun.
He had tried to overtake a Dhaka-bound truck on the way, colliding with the vehicle and falling off his two-wheeler in the process, said the OC. “Then the truck ran over him, leaving him dead on the spot,” he added.
Sakib and Piyal were rescued and rushed to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College.
OC Mamun said police had seized the truck, but its driver and his assistant had managed to flee the area.
Bappi’s maternal aunt had filed a case in connection with the incident, the police officer said.
