Police have arrested a teen for his alleged involvement in vandalizing an idol of Hindu goddess Saraswati at Fultala MM College in Khulna.
The arrested was Anik Mandal, 17.
Fultala police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ilias Talukder said Anik entered the college campus at around 12 midday on Friday and smashed the head of Saraswati, Hindu goddess of knowledge.
At this time, an office staff of the college caught him in the act. Upon receiving information, police arrested Anik.
A man named Subodh Kumar Bose filed a case with Fultala police station in this connection.
Fultala MM College Principal Md Mizanur Rahman said that there was a long-standing dispute between the college authorities and the Puja Temple Committee over whether to keep the temple inside the college campus or not.
He feared that the incident may be connected to this.
Fultala Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sadia Afrin said that the local administration and the law enforcement agencies are always cautious in preventing any untoward incident.
