Eid-ul-Fitr being celebrated in several districts across Bangladesh

Residents in several villages of Faridpur, Chandpur, Satkhira, Bhola, Patuakhali, Dinajpur, Barisal, Lalmonirhat, and Moulvibazar districts are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday in accordance with Saudi Arabia and other Middle East countries.

Thousands of Muslims offered their Eid prayers in the morning.

In Faridpur, the main Eid congregation was held on Rupapat High School Ground in Boalmari at 10:30am, said organizers.

Since 1928, thousands of people from Katagor, Sahasrail, Shekhar, Chhoy Hajar, Maitkomra, Bhulbaria, Ganganandapur, Boroga, Kolimajhi, Rakhaltali, Barangkula, Surjok and Dori Sahasrail villages have been fasting during Ramadan and observing Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha along with Saudi Arabia.

In Bhola, around 3,000 Muslims of 14 villages are celebrating the biggest Muslim festival on Monday.

The first congregation of Eid was held at 8:30am at Tobgi village of Borhanuddin Upazila, said an organizer of the congregation, Majnu Miah.

In Lalmonirhat, more than 500 Muslims of three unions are celebrating Eid on Monday.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdul Mannan and Officer-in-Charge of Kaliganj police station Golam Rosul said that the people of the area usually celebrate Eid in line with Saudi Arabia.

Security measures were taken for the devotees, the UNO added.

In Dinajpur, the Eid prayers were offered in some parts of five upazilas.

In Satkhira, hundreds of Muslims of Satkhira Sadar, Tala and Kalaroa upazilas are celebrating Eid on Monday following Arabia and some other Arab countries.

In Kurigram, two villagers of Bhuruingamari Upazila are celebrating Eid on Monday.

Around 150 families participated in the Eid congregation in the morning. 

Ahl-i Hadith followers also performed Eid Jamaat on Monday.

In Barisal, around 5,000 families of various upazilas are celebrating Eid in line with Saudi Arabia. They all are the followers of Jaigaria Shahsufi Mamtajia Darbar Sharif in Chandanaish of Chittagong.

Meanwhile, Shadra and Shamserpur villages in Hajiganj of Chandpur and Badarpur of Patuakhali celebrated Eid on Sunday in line with the celebration in Afghanistan, Niger and Mali.

However, according to the government, Eid will be celebrated in the country on Tuesday as the Shawwal moon was not sighted on Sunday evening.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are celebrating Eid on Monday as well.
