The former Member of Parliament (MP) from Ukhia and Teknaf constituencies has physically assaulted his own party members in a meeting of Awami League in Cox’s Bazar.
The incident took place during an extended meeting of the Teknaf Municipal Awami League at the Teknaf Upazila Hall room in Cox's Bazar before Iftar on Friday.
According to witnesses, Bodi along with his cadres, including his brother Abdus Shukkur and Nur Mohammad, entered the hall during the meeting and carried out the attack.
Teknaf Municipal Awami League Vice-President Md Yusuf Mono, Municipal Awami League Joint Secretary Yusuf Bhutto and Upazila Awami League Health Secretary advocate Mahmudul Haque were injured in the incident.
Victim Md Yusuf said that during the meeting, the former member of parliament was repeatedly prioritizing the ward committee over the municipal committee while talking.
“When I protested his statement and a disagreement started. At one point, Bodi got down from the stage and called his cadres waiting outside the hall. Later, he and his men beat me up along with Yusuf Bhutto when he came forward to save me,” he added.
Yusuf added that Bodi’s cadres also beat up advocate Mahmudul Haque and snatched his mobile phone while he was trying to capture a video of the incident.
At that time, panic spread across the entire area.
When asked, Teknaf Upazila Awami League General Secretary Nurul Bashar said that the former MP had done such acts before as well and no action was taken against him.
