The fish was caught from Saint Martin’s Island by local fisherman Abdur Rashid and was sold for Tk150,000. The fish was sold again to a third buyer for Tk200,000.

Habib Khan, a former Saint Martin’s Union Parishad (UP) member, confirmed the matter.

“Abdur Rashid is a dedicated and hardworking fisherman. God never returns him empty-handed when he is at the sea,” he added.

Teknaf upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Delwar Hossain said: “I came to know that a local fisherman caught a giant boal poa fish in the morning. Usually, big fish tend to move towards the coast, depending on the current in the sea.”

Fishermen often catch big fish at Saint Martin’s Island. Among them, red poa, boal poa, and coral fish are most frequently caught.
