A married man, who was forced to marry his girlfriend after being caught in the act of adultery in Panchagarh, has created much hype in the locality as well as on social media.
The incident took place at Balrampur Union under Atwari Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
Rohini Chandra Barman, 25, married Iti Rani, 20, a few months ago. However, the couple decided to keep the matter a secret.
Meanwhile, Barman was having an affair with Momota Rani, 21.
On the night of April 12, when Barman went to visit Momota at her home, the girl’s family members caught him and came to know of the affair. The family married them off the next day.
Hearing the news of the marriage, Iti Rani went on a hunger strike in front of Barman’s house on Wednesday.
Later that night, in the presence of the family members of the trio, the man remarried Iti and got married to Momota following Hindu rituals. Both wives went home with the groom.
Abu Touhid, a resident of Balrampur Union, said they came to know of the incident after seeing posts on Facebook. “It has become a hot topic in our area,” he said.
Union Parishad Chairman Delwar Hossain said: "I was informed of the matter by the trio’s family members, and I notified the administration.
“However, I later found out that Barman married both the girls.”
