At least six people were killed in different districts as a seasonal storm hit the country on Wednesday after several days of baking heat.
River police recovered the body of a 14-year-old girl who drowned after a speedboat sank in Chittagong’s Sandwip Channel during the storm. A child is still missing.
The deceased has been identified as Nusrat Jahan Anika.
According to Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Zafarullah of the River Police, a speedboat carrying 20 passengers was heading towards Sandwip's Maitbhanga Ghat when the storm hit it.
The rest of the 18 passengers were rescued.
In Chittagong’s Fatikchari, a housewife was killed after a tree fell on her during the storm.
Rina Akhter, 40, was tying up her cow at a safe place when the nor’wester hit and the tree fell on top of her, said Jharjhari Union Parishad Member Mohammad Enamul Haque.
She was taken to Fatikchari Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared her dead after examination, Dr Nabila Chowdhury said.
A similar incident was reported in Lakshmipur where a man died after a coconut tree fell on top of him around 8am.
The deceased, Ruhul Amin, had gone to a nearby store and was returning home when the storm started, his son Billal Hossain said.
An old coconut tree fell on him. He was rescued and taken to the local health complex where doctors declared him dead.
In Comilla, one person died and four others were injured as a tree fell on a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Muradnagar Upazila.

The deceased has been identified as Shishu Mia. CNG driver Shobuj, and passengers Nargis Akhter, Fatema Begum and Hassan survived the accident.
According to local UP Member Md Jahangir Alam, the CNG was on the way to Srikail from Ranchadrapur around 7am when the tree fell on it.
Shishu Mia was declared dead when taken to the local health complex. The three others were undergoing treatment at Comilla Medical College Hospital.
In Bogra, farmer Rezaul Hossain, 45, died after the branch of a tree hit him in the head during the storm.
Rezaul and his wife were in the yard when the branch fell on him, leaving him fatally injured, Bhatgram Union Member Kamruzzaman confirmed.
In Manikganj’s Daulatpur, 55-year-old Feroza Begum died after being hit by a lightning strike while working on the field.
The mother of three was busy at work at her corn field at that time, Khalshi Union Chairman Md Ziaul Hauque confirmed.
Meanwhile, a sand-laden bulkhead sand in the outer anchorage of the Chittagong Port during the storm.
All five-crew members on board had been rescued, said Md Omar Faruq, secretary of the Chittagong Port Authority.
