A 38-year-old cop died while another person riding pillion on his bike was injured after being hit by a speeding bus in Rupsa upazila of Khulna district on Monday night.
The deceased was identified as Nasim Uddin, an assistant sub-inspector at Khulna city special branch and son of Abdul Wadud Mollah of Birat Kalbunia village in Khulna.
The incident was reported around 7:45pm on the Khulna-Mongla Highway of the upazila, said police.
"The Rupsha-bound bus hit their bike, leaving them critically injured," said the Officer-in-Charge Sarder Mosharrof Hossain of Rupsa police station.

Locals rushed them to Khulna Medical College and Hospital.
Later, Nasim was transferred to Khulna City Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The injured, Shafiqul Islam, is now undergoing treatment at the hospital.
On information, police rushed to the spot and took the motorcycle into custody.
Though the bus has been seized, its driver and his assistant managed to flee, the OC said.
