A UNO (upazila nirbahi officer) has been sued for not marrying the young woman he had relationship with.
Now posted in Karimganj Upazila of Kishoreganj, Manzur also hid his marital status from the girl.
The college student, who resides in Basail of Tangail, said they got acquainted on Facebook last year.
“He told me that he was single at the time, though he is married to a woman and the couple has two daughters,” she told Dhaka Tribune.
She recently lodged a written complaint to the Ministry of Public Administration seeking legal redressal against Manzur, who is a cadre of the 33rd BCS.

“He established physical relation with me on the pretext of marriage and rented a house in Tangail town, where we stayed for two months,” she said in the complaint.
“But he started buying time to marry me. In September last year, he said that our wedding would take place in India where he goes for medical checkups. There he forced me to undergo a piles operation though I was not having such issues.”
She alleged that Manzur and his associate Zobait Hossain had threatened to harm her if she disclosed the matters to anyone. After returning to country, Manzur stopped contacting the girl.

She finally managed to contact Manzur after four months and met with him in Dhaka, but was threatened again.
Her mother said: “The UNO has cheated on my daughter. We have become socially helpless. My daughter's future is uncertain as she can’t go to college anymore. I want justice from the prime minister.”
