Eid prayers to be held at Sholakia after two years

The Sholakia ground in Kishoreganj will arrange the biggest congregation of the country in Eid-ul-Fitr this year, after two years of suspension due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The decision came during a meeting of the Sholakia Eidgah Committee with Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shamim Alam in the chair on Wednesday, reports Bangla Tribune.

The congregation will start at 10am and the prayers will be led by Mowlana Farid Uddin Mashud.

Top tier security will be on place during the prayers.

Five platoons of BGB along with RAB, police and Ansar members will oversee security while the entire field will be under CCTV coverage.

Those offering prayers will have to pass through a four-tier security checkup and will not be allowed to take their phones inside the ground.

The authorities have recommended that the devotees bring nothing but masks and prayer mats.

“There will be every facility available for the Muslims coming to offer prayers from different districts,” said DC Shamim.

Two special trains will be available for those attending the congregation.

The last Eid congregation held at Sholakia was in 2019. This year’s congregation will be the 195th.

In 2016, only a week after the grisly attack on a upscale cafe in Gulshan, members linked to a banned militant group, Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), carried out a coordinated attack on the police at Sholakia during the Eid congregation leaving several dead.
