Police: Two killed in Khulna gunfight

Two people including a suspected criminal have been killed in an alleged gunfight with the police in Khulna city. The deceased are Guddu Babu, 26 who is a suspected criminal and his cohort Mahmud, 24. Khulna Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mizanur Rahman said the incident took place early Monday. He said: “We held Guddu on Sunday afternoon, during the interrogation he gave us information regarding his arms and ammunition storage. According to the given information, a police team went to the city’s railway Ghat area to recover the weapons, OC Mizanur said. The OC also said: “Sensing our presence Guddu’s cohorts open fired on us, in retaliation we fired back triggering a gunfight. “After 20 minutes of scuffle miscreants fled the scene,” he added. After searching the area, police found Guddu and Mahmud on the scene with bullet injuries and took them to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced them dead. Four police officers including OC Mizanul, SI Sujit, ASI Sarwar and Constable Abdullah were also injured and received treatment. The police have also recovered a locally-made gun and four sharp weapons from the scene, Mizanur said.
