BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday claimed that the police are always busy with corruption and politics.
Without taking names, the former state minister also criticized the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam, saying that he had no etiquette.
The DMP chief at a recent event lambasted Mirza Fakhrul for repeatedly claiming BNP chief Khaleda Zia as a freedom fighter.
The BNP leader demanded the removal of such police officers while addressing a conference and council of the Sylhet district unit BNP as the chief guest at the registry ground.
Tahsina Rushdir Luna, advisor to the party chairperson and wife of the missing BNP leader Mohammad Ilias Ali, officially inaugurated the conference at 11:15am.
Fakhrul said that the existence of the country was at stake due to the misrule of the present government.
“They want to turn Bangladesh into a failed state by destroying democratic institutions. A fierce mass movement is needed to unseat the current government,” he added.
Fakhrul further said that mega corruption was taking place in the name of mega development. “Money earned through corruption is being laundered to ‘Begum Para’ of Canada. But there is no step to control the price of essentials.”
Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury delivered the welcome speech at the conference.
