Students of the Department of Law at Chittagong University (CU) locked the main gate on Monday demanding justice for their classmate, who was allegedly assaulted by members of Chhatra League.
The agitating students also staged a procession in the university's Zero Point area protesting the incident that took place on Sunday.
Later, the demonstrators opened the main entrance at around 2pm after the university proctors assured them of ensuring justice.
Assistant Proctor Dr Shahidul Islam said that the students shut the gate without submitting any written complaint to the authorities.
“However, we are still looking into the matter. We have vowed that justice will be served,” he told Dhaka Tribune.
On Sunday, law student Kapil Uddin Sami was beaten up allegedly by the activists of CU unit Chhatra League’s sub-group “Sixty Nine”. He was injured in the head after being hit by an iron rod.
Kapil was later admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment.
