Honey collector killed in tiger attack in Sundarbans

A honey collector has died in a tiger attack at the Satkhira range of the Sundarbans, say forest officials.

The deceased was identified as Solaiman Sheikh, 50, a resident of the district’s Shyamnagar upazila.

“Some of the other honey collectors reported to us of Solaiman's death from the Kachikata area of the forest on Thursday,” said Nur Alam, Station Officer of the Forest Department’s Burigoalini Station.

Solaiman and his associates secured permission to enter the forest last week to collect honey. "We cannot confirm anything further until the body arrives,” added the officer.

"Until the body is brought to locality, it will be impossible to ascertain in which compartment Solaiman died. However, as he went into the forest with proper permission, the Forest Department will compensate his family,” said Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) of Satkhira MA Hasan.
