Two people in Chuadanga died after inhaling toxic gas from a septic tank of an under-construction building in Chuadanga on Friday, said officials.
The deceased were identified as sanitation worker Shariful Islam, 30, son of Ansar Pramanik of Kalyanpur village in Kushtia, and Sagar Das,15, the grandson of the building owner Nipen Das in Anandadhap village of the Alamdanga municipality area.
Shariful got down into the septic tank to clean it at around 9:45am. After he did not return, Sagar entered the tank to check on him.
Sagar's family members reported the matter to the fire service after none of them returned from the septic tank.
A team later pulled the duo out and rushed them to Alamdanga Upazila Health Complex, where doctors pronounced them dead, said Health and Family Planning Officer Hadi Ziaur Rahman.
They died on their way to the hospital, he added.
Station Officer Mokhlesur Rahman of the Alamdanga Fire Service said the incident may have happed due to toxic gas present at the tank.
Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Alamdanga police station said a team was sent to the spot for a probe.
