Two fishermen have died and ten others fallen sick after consuming cooked Potka (puffer) fish in Barisal.
The deceased were identified as Sushil Das, 51, and Robi Biswas, 35.
Meanwhile, the ten sick fishermen, all from Banaripara Upazila of Barisal, are now undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Sub-Inspector of Barisal Kotwali police Kamruzzaman confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday.
Sameer Das, one of the sick fishermen, said a group of 13 fishermen were returning to Barisal from the Sundarbans on a boat on Monday.
Of them, 12 people, including Robi and Sushil, became sick after eating cooked Potka fish. They were taken to Kaukhali Upazila Health Complex and given first aid.
Later, Sushil, Robi and another were sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
Sushil died on the way to the hospital while Robi died while undergoing treatment on Tuesday.
