Locals in Jamalpur’s Melandaha staged demonstrations on Tuesday protesting the rape and consequent suicide of a 10th grader three days ago.
During the protest, they demanded death penalty and exemplary punishment for the perpetrator, Tamim Ahmed Sawpan.
A human chain was organized by Brac staff and locals, where protesters called for Tamim’s associates to be brought to book.
On March 12, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Tamin, the main accused in the case filed over the “suicide” of the tenth grader after being raped.
The girl, who reportedly hanged herself of March 11, said in a suicide note that Tamim had mentally and physically tortured her by keeping her hostage.
On Friday, a case was filed at Melandah police station following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father.
The case says Tamim used to harass the girl regularly on her way to school.
On Thursday night, she went to sleep after returning from school, and later they found her hanging body.
