Police have recovered the body of a 13-year-old girl from a house in Chittagong who was murdered after rape.
The deceased was a fifth-grader of Halishahar Abbas Para Government Primary School. She was living with her family in a rented house in the Halishahar area.
Confirming the incident on Monday, Inspector (Investigation) Mohammad Al Mamun said: "On Sunday morning, she returned home after coaching class. No one was there at the time.”
The victim’s family members arrived at the house around 9:30pm but could not find her anywhere.
Later, they discovered the girl's body in a tenant's room next door. Upon receiving the news, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body.
A 35-year-old man was residing in the adjoining room where the girl's body was discovered.
“Since the incident, he has been on the run. We suspect that he killed the girl after raping her,” said the police officer.
The autopsy report prepared by Chittagong Medical College Hospital also confirmed that she had been raped. The body bore injury marks, said doctors.
