Alyssa Theodora Pitta came to Barisal from Germany with her husband to arrange their wedding reception following Bengali tradition.
Their friend Leisa also came along to celebrate the wedding.
Pitta met Rakib Husain Shuvo in Germany but their wedding ceremony had no drum beating or firecrackers. Therefore, the couple decided to arrange a program on their first wedding anniversary in Barisal.
On Wednesday, the couple organized a Gaye-Holud program, a traditional pre-wedding event, which was attended by family members of the groom and neighbours. Later, the groom also arranged a reception program as per the tradition in Bangladesh.
The entire neighbourhood in Charbaria area of the city got a facelift ahead of the events. The groom’s residence was also decorated with colourful papers and lights.
The father of the groom, Shahidul Islam, said that they had hosted around 3,000 people and cooked food in 75 large pots.
Shahidul said that his daughter-in-law and her friend had enjoyed the festivity of the wedding.
Alisa said she had a great time in Barisal, and that the Bengali tradition mesmerized her.
