The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested four people over the murder of a teenager in Cox’s Bazar.
The arrestees were identified as Nurul Islam, 20, Md Arif Hossain, 36, Md Hossain, 31 and Abu Hena Hanif 33.
RAB-15 chief Lt Col Khairul Islam disclosed the matter during a media call on Tuesday.
According to RAB official, victim Md Wajej, 13, used to know accused Nurul Islam and both of them used to ride easy bikes.
On February 26, law enforcers recovered a dead body from a roadside in Ramu upazila’s Khuniapalong area. The body bore multiple knife injuries and police were initially unable to identify the victim.
The victim’s father, after identifying the body as Wajej, filed a case with Ramu police against the unidentified accused..
“They (the arrestees) are part of an easy bike hijacking ring,” said the RAB official.
On February 25, Nurul and Hanif got on Wajej’s bike and started towards Maricchya from Shamitipara.
At around 11pm, they stopped the vehicle at the Ramu-Maricchya road in Khuniyapalong and attempted to hijack the bike from Wajej. When the victim resisted, the hijackers stabbed him.
Later, Nurul contacted ringleader Arif over phone to arrange the sale of the easy bike and submitted the vehicle to Md Hossain, a Rohingya.
The RAB official said that legal action will be taken against all the culprits.
