Rickshaw pullers will need to register with the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) to operate in its areas, DSCC Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has said.
He said a registration system for the pullers will be introduced soon and necessary work has already begun.
The authorities have created a software where the registration information of the rickshaws will be preserved, the mayor said speaking during a meeting at Nagar Bhaban.
He also asked ward councilors to be aware of illegal rickshaws.
"We are conducting mobile courts against illegal rickshaws, but you have to keep in mind that we have only two magistrates. Still, they are conducting strict operations against illegal rickshaws,” he said.
The DSCC started drives against unregistered manually-driven and battery-run rickshaws in different areas of the city from the first week of January.
The drive is set to continue and the vehicles seized will be disposed of, said the mayor.
