Cables stolen from Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant

Electrical cables worth Tk6,500,000 have been stolen from two cranes of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna.

They were stolen from 126-wheeled cranes, specially made for this project, which are placed on the waterway near the Padma River inside the power plant in Ishwardi.

VN Turutin, security director of the project, filed a case with the Ishwardi police station in this regard on Wednesday, Officer-in-Charge Asaduzzaman Asad confirmed.

According to the case, the cables were kept in the two lever cranes at the designated place for loading and unloading of cargo during a project observation till December 30 last.

On January 9, during a mechanical inspection of the cranes, a 265-metre long cable was reported missing.

Locals claimed that only those who know the mechanics can remove the cables from the cranes.

Regarding the incident, the OC said: "Those involved in the theft may have been there regularly or have an idea about the machine. If not, how could such an important thing be stolen?”

SI Atiqul Islam, in-charge of Pakshi outpost, has been assigned to investigate the case.
