Authorities have withdrawn the officer-in-charge of Mirzapur police station just two days before casting of the votes in Tangail 7 by-polls as per directives of the Election Commission.
OC Sheikh Rezaul Haque Dipu was withdrawn and attached to the district police lines on Friday morning.
Superintendent of Police in Tangail Sarkar Mohamamd Kaiser confirmed the matter. The OC was withdrawn from Mirzapur due to administrative reasons, he said.
District Election Officer AHM Kamrul Hasan told Dhaka Tribune that his office had sent a letter to the inspector general of police seeking Dipu’s withdrawal from the police station.
In a similar move, the OC of Sudharam Model police station in Noakhali, Md Shahed Uddin, was withdrawn and attached to the police lines on Thursday night.
The by-polls will be held on Sunday using Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).
The authorities have deployed four platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to maintain law and order during the election.
