5 killed in Chittagong, Rangpur road accidents

Five people have been killed in two separate accidents in Chittagong and Rangpur districts.

In Chittagong, two people were killed after a covered van hit by another van in Mirsarai upazila around 9:30am on Wednesday morning.

A pedestrian was also injured in the accident, confirmed Amir Faruq, in-charge of Kumira Highway police outpost.

The deceased are yet to be identified and the injured was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), he added.

According to police, a Chittagong-bound covered van was rear-ended by a second van, killing the duo sitting in the second van on spot.

However, it is still not confirmed that one of the deceased is the driver of the van. Police suspect he fled away.

The bodies will be sent to CMCH morgue for autopsy, said the police official.

In Rangpur, three people were killed after their motorcycle lost control and hit a roadside tree.

The accident happened in Kutubpur union under Badarganj upazila of the district on Tuesday night, confirmed Badarganj police station Officer-in-Charge Habibur Rahman.

The deceased, who were brother-in-laws, are Yusuf Ali, 45, from Chittagong, Nahid Sikder, 25, from Narail, and Rony, 22, from Badarganj.

According to police, the trio was riding a single motorcycle and was on their way to Rangpur Sadar upazila when the accident happened, killing Yusuf on the spot.

Nahid and Rony were rushed to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared them dead around 2:30am on Wednesday.

Dr Amjad Hossain, a doctor in the surgery department of Rangpur Medical College Hospital, said the duo died due to severe head injuries and excessive bleeding.

OC Habibur Rahman said the bodies will be handed over to their families after autopsy.
