The overall flood situation in the Brahmaputra basin remained mostly stable with water levels in the major rivers rising at a slower rate at most gauge station points in the last 24 hours till Monday morning.
However, the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) has issued a warning that the major rivers may begin to swell in the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, the flood scenario in the Brahmaputra basin is likely to remain unchanged in the coming days with the decline in the onrush of water from the upper catchment areas.
According to the bulletin and local BWDB officials, major rivers were flowing above the danger levels at seven points in Kurigram, Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Bogura and Sirajganj districts.
The Dharla rose by 10cm at Kurigram point and was flowing 34cm above the danger mark.

The Brahmaputra marked an 8cm rise at Chilmari point and was flowing 26m above the danger mark.
Meanwhile, the Jamuna marked a 5cm rise at Fulchhari, 2cm at Bahadurabad, 2cm at Sariakandi, 5cm at Kazipur and remained unchanged at Sirajganj points.
However, the Teesta fell by 32cm at Dalia and 9cm at Kawnia and was flowing 32cm and 18cm below the danger mark at these points respectively.
Chief Engineer for Rangpur Zone of BWDB Jyoti Prosad Ghosh told BSS that the flood situation currently remains undeviated at low-lying areas of Rangpur, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram and Gaibandha districts.
He hoped that the short-term flooding is likely to start improving in the next 48 to 72 hours in the Brahmaputra basin.
“There is no report of breaching of flood control embankments and other devices anywhere in Rangpur division under the zone. We are closely monitoring the situation and ensuring the safety of flood control structures,” Ghosh added.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Zakir Hossain said the district and upazila administrations are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps where needed in Rangpur division.
