The 300ft muddy road in Porapaikar village under Bogra’s Sonatola upazila has remained unpaved for the last 50 years despite repeated demands for an asphalt one to alleviate commute struggles.
Light rain causes immense suffering to local residents making it difficult to commute in and out of the village which is located in the Jorgachha union of the upazila.
Locals have been seeking the intervention of authorities concerned in the construction of a much-desired paved road over the muddy one within a short span of time.
The village has about 4,500 residents and they lack basic amenities owing to the underdeveloped road communication.
Locals say the 300ft unpaved road stretched from Porapaikar Government Primary School to the house of Golam Mostafa Master.
And although public representatives always assured locals of paving the road before elections, they never followed through on their promises afterwards, they added.
Golam Azam Tipu, president of the ward unit Awami League, said even though there have been steps to pave the road in the past, they were all suspended due to issues arising regarding land acquisition.
Acknowledging the importance of the issue, Jorgachha UP Chairman Rostam Ali Mandal said that he would take necessary steps for the construction of the paved road for the convenience of the local residents.
Sonatola Upazila Engineer Rashed Imran said: “I am unaware about the demand for a paved road in Porapaikar village. If I get a proposal from the local people, I will take necessary steps by the next financial year.”
