Members of police rescued a 25-year-old woman from her cursed life as a sex worker for a long one and half years at a brothel, after she called the national emergency hotline - 999.
A team of Goaland police raided the brothel at around 6pm on Friday and rescued the victim.
Making false promises of casting her as a heroine, a member of the trafficking gang sold the victim for Tk60,000, to the country's largest brothel in Daulatdia, under Goalanda upazila.
A woman named Rita, 26, and her so-called husband Sohail Rana, 30, have been arrested in connection to this incident, confirmed Goaland ghat police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Taybir.
After being trafficked to the brothel, the couple kept the victim locked in a room and forced her into prostitution.
A case has been filed against them under the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act, before sending them to Rajbari court on Saturday.
